Let's work together for better solutions to emissions.
The aviation industry takes it environmental responsibilities very seriously because delivering sustainable aviation is the biggest challenge facing global aerospace today.
But achieving these goals is a huge challenge. Despite aviation's efforts to date, reports Giovanni Bisignani, the Director General of the In ternational Air Transport Association (IATA), “air transport's footprint is growing. That is not acceptable. Our vision is to achieve carbon neutral growth in the medium-term on the way to a carbon emission-free future.
To achieve these targets, industry must work towards the following strategies:
- Investment in new technology
- Environmentally efficient infrastructure
- Improved operations based on best practice
- Economic measures that provide effective incentives to improve environmental performance
At Greener Skies 2009, experts in their respective fields will report where we are in terms of achieving the above strategies as well as outlining more effective means to inform the travelling public that airlines – which produce 2% of the world's green house gas emissions - are advocates of reducing harmful CO2 emissions.
Delegates to Greener Skies 2009 will go away from the conference comfortable in the knowledge they have been presented with a completely contemporary summary of all aspects of the aviation and environment debate. |
