Asia-Pacific airlines lead air cargo demand in March

International Air Transport Association (IATA) data for March reports the region’s airlines recorded 9.6% year-on-year air cargo demand growth for the 31 days, the strongest performing region among the six that IATA monitors. Read More » Asia-Pacific capacity - available cargo tonne kilometers - increased 11.3% year-on-year, the association said. Globally, total cargo tonne kilometers (CTK) increased 4.4% compared with March 2024 (+5.5% for international operations) reaching a historic peak for the reported month, IATA said. Capacity expanded 4.3% compared with a year ago with international operations 6.1% better than 12 months earlier. “March cargo volumes were strong. It is possible this is partly a front-loading of demand as some businesses tried to beat the well-telegraphed April 2 tariff announcement by the Trump Administration. The uncertainty over how much of the April 2 proposals will be implemented may eventually weigh on trade,” IATA said.
