All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines booked robust passenger traffic in Obon week

All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Japan Airlines (JAL) have posted increases in passengers on their domestic and international networks in the Obon holiday week of August 8 to August 17. Read More » ANA reported a 13.2% increase in passengers flown on its international routes, to 264,129, and JAL posted a 10.5% improvement in customers, to 231,366, on its medium and long-haul networks. ANA pipped JAL with slightly higher growth of 7.4% or 1.6 million passengers carried in the week, against JAL’s 5.9% growth, to 1.2 million passengers transported, in the reported period. JAL said its North American, Southeast Asian and Hawaii routes were particularly strong compared with Obon a year ago. ANA said about 23,000 passengers flew between Japan and Hawaii in the holiday week, a record high for the carrier.
