Thailand offering foreign visitors free domestic flights on six local carriers

The Tourism and Sports Ministry of Thailand plans to give away domestic air tickets to 200,000 foreign arrivals to encourage them to visit the country’s second tier destinations. Read More » The promotion will run from September to November with the government to subsidize air fares at 1,750 baht (US$54) for one way tickets or 3,500 baht for round-trip fares for each tourist that books on Thai Airways International, Thai AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air and Thai Vietjet. A complimentary checked 20 kg baggage allowance will be included in the offer. The free tickets will be available when tourists confirm international flights directly with airlines or online travel agents. The ministry will submit the 700 million baht promotion to Thailand’s cabinet leadership for approval within the week. The giveaway is forecast to generate revenue of 8.8 billion baht.
