Japan Airlines (JAL) Group’s company, JALUX, and Tokyo Metropolitan Government are backing the first hydrogen-powered electric towing vehicle in the country. The Aviation Wire reports the vehicle is a diesel-powered WT250E-1 manufactured by Komatsu Ltd. (6301) that the JAL Group used from 1997 to its retirement in August last year. It has been converted to a hydrogen vehicle by Tajima Motor Corporation. From August 29 to December the vehicle will undergo testing at Tokyo Haneda Airport where it will push back departing 767s, 737s, E170s and E190s.
More than 600 members of the United Auto Workers union at GE Aerospace’s plant at Evendale, Ohio and at the Erlanger, Kentucky distribution facility are on strike after the two sides failed to agree a new contract.
