The Australian government has released the terms of reference for the Productivity Commission’s inquiry into regional airfares, with the final report due in 18 months. The inquiry will consider issues impacting ticket prices on regional services such as competition, pricing practices and profits along the supply chain. The government’s recent aviation white paper said the average ticket price per kilometre was 52% higher for flights involving regional airports than flights between two capital cities.
India-headquartered Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and Russia-based United Aircraft Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the production of the SJ-100 aircraft. HAL, a state-owned corporation, will have the right to produce up to 100 SJ-100 narrowbodies, formerly known as the Sukhoi Superjet 100, for customers in India as part of the MOU.
Plaza Premium Group has opened a lounge in the domestic area of Adelaide Airport. The company said the lounge was Australia’s first independent domestic airport lounge.
SITA has launched an app, known as the SITA Agent App, for airport staff to check in passengers and print boarding passes from a mobile device instead of having to be at a fixed desk or kiosk.
