ANA Holdings to discontinue Air Japan brand with the end of northern winter season
October 31st 2025
Air Japan will suspend its flights on March 28, 2026, little over two years after the start of the brand, ANA Holdings, the parent company, announced. Read More » The decision to review the plan was made due to the fact that the avoidance of flying over Russian airspace has become prolonged, and flight times on European routes have increased by approximately 30%, resulting in a high demand for aircraft, pilots, and cabin crew. In addition, there have been delays in the delivery of new Boeing 787 aircraft, and there is a shortage of aircraft that can be operated due to repairs to engine malfunctions, forcing ANA Holdings to review the usage of its current capacity, the Aviation Wire reported. The ANA Holdings currently operates a multi-brand strategy with three brands: ANA, a full-service airline; Peach Aviation, a low-cost airline; and AirJapan, a hybrid airline. The group will review this strategy and switch to a dual-brand strategy with ANA and Peach. Koji Shibata, president of ANA Holdings, said the group is still evaluating whether to maintain the livery and cabin specifications of the only three AirJapan-spec aircraft. It is also considered whether to swap engines powering AirJapan’s fleet of three Boeing 787-8 with ANA’s 787s undergoing maintenance due to engine problems.
