November 4th 2025
Capital A and the Bahrain Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications have signed a letter of intent (LOI) to consider the country as a Middle East hub for AirAsia. Read More » The LOI will evaluate AirAsia starting flights from its hubs in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand to Bahrain, potentially within the next five years, as well as onward connections to destinations in Africa, Central Asia, Europe, the U.S. and Middle East. The parties will also consider AirAsia establishing an air operator certificate (AOC) in Bahrain. "The future of travel is multi-hub, seamless and borderless," Capital A CEO, Tony Fernandes, said. "By 2030, in addition to potentially operating a Bahrain-based AOC, we expect to operate over 25 daily flights between Bahrain and our ASEAN megahubs, carrying over 20 million passengers over the next five years." Capital A subsidiaries, Asia Digital Engineering and Teleport, will also consider establishing a presence in Bahrain as part of the LOI.
