Airlines urging passengers headed to the US to check flight status

Asia-Pacific airlines are advising passengers travelling to the U.S. and connecting to domestic services to check for schedule changes or cancellations due to the U.S. government shutdown. Read More » The government has instructed airlines to cancel thousands of flights to allow the Federal Aviation Administration to manage staff shortages, particularly of air traffic controllers, who have had to work without pay during the shutdown. Cathay Pacific said its flights to and from the U.S. continued to operate as normal. "As the federal government shutdown in the United States continues, we’re closely monitoring any potential impact on air travel," Cathay Pacific said in a statement on its website. "If you have a connecting flight in the United States, we strongly recommend checking directly with your domestic airline for the latest updates on flight status." Japan Airlines (JAL) said some international flights to and from the U.S. may experience delays. "Currently, Japan Airlines plans to operate our international flights as scheduled," JAL said. "If you have reservations for the flights operated by other airlines, including code-share flights with JAL, please check the operating airlines’ website in advance for the latest flight status." All Nippon Airways (ANA) had a similar message alerting customers to potential disruptions. "Due to the impact of the U.S. federal government shutdown, some US domestic routes may experience delays or cancellations due to the situation," ANA said. "At present, ANA flights are operating as scheduled, however if you have a connecting flight, please check the latest flight status with your operating airline."
