China Airlines approves purchase of widebody jets, plans to sell four Boeing 747-400F

The board of directors of China Airlines (CAL) has authorized the chairman to purchase five Airbus A350-1000s, five Boeing 777-9s, four Boeing 777-8Fs, and two Boeing 777F aircraft. Read More » In the stock exchange filing, the Taiwan-headquartered company stated that the purchase price is no more than US$449 million for each A350-1000, no more than US$531 million for each 777 -9, no more than US$519 million for each 777-8F, and no more than US$438 million for each 777F aircraft. The total transaction price is no more than US$7.86 billion. CAL announced the purchase of one XWB-97 spare engine with a unit price of no more than US$51.2 million, and three GE9X spare engines with a unit price of no more than US$59.2 million. The board of directors also announced the sale of four Boeing 747-400F aircraft. The first two, priced at around US$40 million, will be purchased by Cargolux Airlines, and for the last two freighters for sale, the transaction is still under negotiation. The last resolution authorized the company representatives to lease or purchase two Boeing 777F aircraft. The total purchase price shall not exceed US$876 million, or the total lease price shall not exceed US$468 million.
