China Airlines upgrades its premium economy class, positioning it closer to business class

Taiwan-headquartered China Airlines (CAL) said it has comprehensively upgraded its Premium Economy Class product. Read More » The changes include airport check-in, in-flight amenities, catering design, and service processes. Starting February 1, 2026, the SkyTeam member carrier will launch a new premium economy tableware collection featuring a white porcelain finish, blending modern and Eastern aesthetics. The lightweight ceramic aligns with sustainability trends. The upgrades also include a range of in-flight amenities and catering services in premium economy, with features approaching business-class standards, including individually wrapped hand towels, two-tone blankets, comfortable slippers, and noise-canceling headphones. The catering options are also more diverse, with sparkling wines and caffeine-free herbal teas available in business class, as well as a variety of online, pre-selected, exclusive meals. Premium Economy Class passengers enjoy a complimentary checked baggage allowance of two pieces (28 kg each). Furthermore, Premium Economy Class passengers on Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 aircraft enjoy complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi service equivalent to Business Class, providing unlimited web browsing and text messaging capabilities. For ground services, CAL has implemented upgraded processes, establishing priority check-in counters for Premium Economy passengers to improve check-in efficiency. Premium Economy Class passengers also enjoy priority boarding privileges. “Adhering to the philosophy of ‘China Airlines Quality, Starting from the Heart,’ the airline aims to create a meticulous and prestigious flight experience that is close to that of Business Class, providing mid-to-high-end passengers with more thoughtful and valuable ticketing options, and demonstrating China Airlines' dedication to cultivating brand value,” CAL said.
