China Eastern flags narrowing of annual loss for 2025

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) expects to report a net loss for calendar 2025 between 1.3 billion yuan and 1.8 billion yuan (US$187 million and US$259 million). Read More » The estimate represented an improvement from the net loss of 4.2 billion yuan posted in 2024. CEA said the improved financial result was achieved amid "steady development" in Mainland China’s civil aviation passenger market and a stable national economy. The airline grew cargo volumes 10.8% and passenger numbers 6.7% in 2025, compared with the prior year. "The company adhered to strengthening its safety foundation, continuously optimised its route network layout, actively enhanced its marketing capabilities, continuously innovated its service quality, deepened its business and finance integration as well as cost control, and accelerated its digital transformation," CEA said in a regulatory filing. CEA has not achieved an annual profit since 2019.
