Korean Air reports 3.3% carbon emissions reductions for 2025

Korean Air (KAL) said it cut carbon emissions from aircraft operations by 460,000 tons last year through fuel management measures and the use of more modern, fuel-efficient aircraft. Read More » The South Korea carrier said its flight emissions fell 3.3% to 12.2 million tons in 2025, from 12.6 million in 2024. KAL said fuel-efficient aircraft such as the 787, A350 and A321neo accounted for 41.6% of total flights last year. The airline has also benefitted from measures to optimise cruising speed, reduce drag and fuel burn and coordinating with air traffic control to ensure the shortest flight path is chosen. The airline also credits engine maintenance - including periodic core washing and precision tuning - as a positive factor. "This reduction was driven by collaboration across all operational sectors and the participation of our employees," KAL said. "We remain committed to meeting our carbon reduction goals and continuing our journey toward sustainable aviation."
