Korean Air and Delta Air Lines in discussion about opening Seoul-Austin route, supporting semiconductor plant in Texas

On March 13, 2026, representatives from Korean Air (KAL) and Delta Air Lines met to discuss opening the Seoul-Austin route to support smooth personnel movement and business decision-making ahead of the operation of Samsung Electronics' new semiconductor plant in Taylor, near Austin, in the second half of this year, Herald Corp reported. Read More » Currently, there are no direct flights between the cities. The most popular journey, requiring a transfer at Dallas or Los Angeles, takes a total of 18 hours. In 2022, Korean Air pursued the launch of flights on the route following Samsung’s investment announcement, but to date, the carrier’s plans have not materialized. The foundry plant in Taylor, an investment of $37 billion, is scheduled to open in the second half of this year. It will produce the most advanced semiconductors in 2nm process to target U.S. fabless customers including Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, Qualcomm, and AMD.
