Thailand’s carriers asked government for jet fuel assistance

Read More » Last week, transport minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn met with airline executives, including Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, Thai VietJet Air, Nok Air, and Thai Lion Air, as well as aviation agencies, to discuss fuel price pressures stemming from tensions in the Middle East. The Airlines Association of Thailand stated that the airlines had sustained Songkran services despite losses, but capacity has since dropped to just over 60% of pre-crisis levels. Proposals include suspending aviation fees for six months, extending payment terms for charges from April to September, and cutting excise tax on Jet A-1 fuel from 4.726 baht (US$0.14) per liter to 0.20 baht for six months. The Transport Ministry agreed to review proposals.
