China Eastern Airlines passenger numbers dip below 12 million in May

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) flew 11.5 million passengers in May, down 8.7% from 12.6 million carried in the same month in 2025. Read More » The decline was across all parts of CEA’s network - domestic passengers fell 9.7% to 9.6 million, international passengers were 2.7% lower at 1.6 million and regional flyers dropped 5.4% to 309,080. The SkyTeam alliance member cut passenger capacity, measured by available seat kilometres, 5.4% in the month, with revenue passenger kilometres 3.6% softer. Passenger load factor rose 1.5 percentage points to 86.9%. At May 31, the Shanghai-headquartered airline had a fleet of 827 aircraft, an increase of four from 823 at the end of April. There were six new aircraft arrivals - four A320 family aircraft, one C919 and one C909 - alongside the withdrawal of two A320 family aircraft during the 31 days.
