Air India introduces “Basic” fare, targeting price-sensitive passengers

There will be an option to purchase meals before the flight departs. The fare is currently available only through its direct booking channels, including its website, mobile app, contact center, and airport ticketing offices. The carrier said the new fare is aimed at price-conscious travelers who prefer to pay only for services they need. The market analysts see it as an attempt to claim the market dominated by LCCs. The basic fare is being trialed on select domestic routes. Air India will assess customer response during the trial phase before deciding on the future expansion of the offering.
