ANA reports soft Obon travel period

All Nippon Airways (ANA) carried 1.5 million passengers on its domestic flights during this year’s Obon holiday period in Japan, down 7.7% from 1.6 million in the same national holidays in 2025. Read More » The airline cut domestic capacity, measured by available seats, by 5.1% during Obon, while its passenger load factor rose 2.5 percentage points to 88.3%. The Star Alliance member said it cancelled 362 domestic flights during Obon due to typhoon activity. For international routes, ANA reported 261,115 passengers flying overseas for the Obon period, down 0.7 of a percentage point from 262,878 in 2025. The number of seats on its international services was 1.2% higher, while passenger load factor rose 1.6 percentage points to 86.2%. ANA said its most popular international route was Hawaii and noted the passenger load factor on flights to the U.S. islands was 1.6 percentage points higher at 86.2%. The airline said it cancelled 26 international flights during Obon - none of which were due to typhoon activity - which impacted about 5,300 people.
