Germany opens investigation into Vietnam Airlines incident at Munich Airport

The German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) has opened an investigation into an incident at Munich Airport involving a Vietnam Airlines 787-9, registration VN-A867 on August 15. Read More » The aircraft, which was operating the VN34 to Hanoi, experienced a tail strike during takeoff. The flight crew conducted a go around on the first attempt to land on Runway 26R. On the second attempt, the aircraft could be seen with smoke emerging from the landing gear. It also came to a stop beyond the end of the runway and caused damage to runway lighting infrastructure. The BFU said its investigation was being carried out with the participation of investigators from the U.S.A and Vietnam.
