AirAsia working on US$1 billion capital raising: Report

AirAsia Group has engaged a specialist advisory firm to explore ways to raise US$1 billion in fresh capital to bolster a stretched balance sheet amid soaring fuel prices and unfavourable foreign exchange movements, local media reported, citing unnamed sources. Read More » The LCC group has posted two consecutive quarterly losses and recently announced it was cutting capacity across its operating airlines between 20% and 25% in the three months to September 30 and reducing its operating fleet. Media reports said the company was looking to raise the US$1 billion through international debt markets, although the state of its balance sheet raised the possibility AirAsia Group may require some form of guarantee, potentially from government, in order to secure finance.
