"The growth in both passenger traffic and capacity was mainly in East Asia, Europe, and the South West Pacific," SIA said in its monthly traffic report. "Passenger load factors saw a year-on- year decrease in East Asia, Europe, and South West Pacific route regions as passenger growth tracked behind capacity increases." SIA group capacity, or available seat kilometres, grew by 3.5%, while demand, measured by revenue passenger kilometres, improved 1.5%. Passenger load factor was down 1.6 percentage points at 86.4%. SIA said its cargo operations carried 2.8% more freight in the 31 days compared with a year earlier. While demand "remained strong across the board", the SIA report noted some "softening of e-commerce flow to Europe" following the European Union’s introduction of a small-parcel duty and other exemptions at the start of July.
