Read More » The proposed new flights include daily Qantas Airways-operated services from Perth to Jakarta and from Brisbane to Denpasar, as well as more flights on the Melbourne-Jakarta route. It has also proposed a new daily Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport-Denpasar service to be operated by its LCC unit, Jetstar Airways. The application with Australia’s International Air Services Commission (IASC), was for 4,539 seats per week between Australia and Indonesia. It followed the recent announcement the Australia and Indonesia governments had agreed to expand the pair’s bilateral air services agreement by providing 5,000 more seats to airlines of both countries. The IASC, which manages Australia’s air traffic rights, has invited other applications for capacity on the Australia-Indonesia route, with the closing date set for October 19. Prior to the recent update of the air service agreement, there was no available capacity for Australian airlines to expand flying to Indonesia from the four major Australian cities - Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney - with the then-available 25,000 available seats per week fully utilised. Indonesian airlines are using about 60% of their available 30,000 seats.
