Airbus leads April order tally but still lags Boeing

In April, Airbus narrowed the order gap with its major rival, but still lags behind Boeing in year to date net orders. China Southern Airlines was Airbus’ customer of the month after placing an order for 20 A350-900s, although only 10 have been officially listed thus far. Hong Kong-based China Aircraft Leasing Group (CALC) ordered five A320s. Airbus’s other April orders included four A319ceo from an unidentified customer, three additional A320ceo from AirAsia, an A330-200 from Iberia and two A321ceo to A321neo conversions from Nile Air.

Boeing booked 156 commercial net orders to April 30, valued at US$24 billion and made up of 107 B737 MAXs, 57 B737NGs, a B747-8, eight B777-300ERs, a B777F, four B787-8s and nine B787-9s.

Taking conversions and cancellations into account, the April transactions brought Airbus’ net orders for the first four months of 2017 to 23 aircraft. It has delivered 182 aircraft from January to April 30 this year. Boeing handed over 213 aircraft to customer to April 30.
