AirAsia Japan intends to launch a double daily service to Sendai from its Nagoya base on August 8. This is the airline’s second domestic service. AirAsia Japan re-launched in October 2017 with flights to Sapporo, which it now serves three times daily. Last February, AirAsia Japan started its first and so far only international flight, Nagoya-Taipei Taoyuan.

In the first quarter of this year, AirAsia Japan had the lowest load factor of all of AirAsia's units. Its 80% load factor was a 0.6 ppt improvement over earlier results, but is behind the 87%-91% load factors of AirAsia's Southeast Asia and India units. At May 27, the group’s fleet plan called for one aircraft to be added to AirAsia Japan’s fleet in 2019.
