China maintains lead as world’s top domestic air passenger market

China was the biggest country market in scheduled capacity in the first week of March, at about 16.2 million seats, figures from travel data company, OAG, published yesterday showed. Read More » However, the gap is closing each week as more domestic capacity is added in the U.S., which was second, at 14.5 million seats, to China in the OAG report. India (two million) was in third position, followed by Indonesia (two million) and India at number five with 1.6 million passengers. Airlines have eliminated about 10 million seats from their April schedules in the past week as they adjust to the latest changes in travel restrictions and demand, OAG said.
