Cathay Pacific announces fiscal year 2022 US$835.2 million loss

Cathay Pacific chairman, Patrick Healy, addressing the airline group’s full-year losses of HK$6.548 million (US$835.2 million) said in a Stock Exchange of Hong Kong filing that the company’s 2022 second half results “saw a marked improvement” over its interim results, recording an attributable profit of HK$2.261 million for the six months to December 31, 2022. Healy said: “We are re-connecting the Hong Kong international aviation hub by rebuilding our flight capacity to serve the needs of Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland and international travel markets.”

Its airlines, Cathay Pacific and HK Express, “will be operating about 70% of pre-pandemic passenger flight capacity by the end of 2023 with the aim to return to pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2024,” he said.
