She officially commenced in her precedent breaking role on April 1. Writing in the April edition of the Japan Airlines in-flight magazine, Skyward, Tottori reaffirmed her focus on the customer and pledged to ensure the airline was a place where all employees can find fulfilment and fully demonstrate their abilities. “Having asked myself many times if I am the right person to assume the heavy responsibilities of the president, I finally decided to accept the position, where my experience will guide me,” she said. “Over the years, I have overcome many challenges with my trusted colleagues. In my new position, I will always put our customers first as I endeavour to ensure they will have happy and enriching experiences by providing safe and comfortable air transportation and helping them to make connections with other people, countries and regions.” Tottori, (59) wrote of her love of exploring new parts of the world, particularly when not on duty. “When traveling for pleasure, I would only decide where to stay on the first night. After that, I would remain in a town I liked for as long as I pleased and visit places the locals told me about,” she said. “With these chance encounters and connections I made at my destinations, I found the true joy of travel.”
