Virgin Australia (VA) and Boeing have completed a study that evaluates a Book and Claim framework for accounting of the environmental benefits of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Read More » The report, completed by advisory firm, Pollination, argues there are “inherent” challenges in the current policy frameworks that account for the environmental benefits from SAF. “This report outlines how a Book and Claim system will allow Australian airlines to contribute to aviation de-carbonization even before domestic SAF production commences,” VA general manager sustainability, Fiona Walmsley, said. Boeing sustainability lead for Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific, Dr Kimberly Camrass, said: “Book and Claim is critical to scaling SAF uptake globally. It eliminates geographical barriers, allowing airlines to access the environmental benefits of SAF even when they operate in regions where production is not possible or not yet established.”
