Hong Kong Airlines frequent flyer program becomes revenue based

Hong Kong Airlines has updated its Fortune Wings Club frequent flyer program by awarding points based on the cost of air fares rather than the distance and the cabin flown. Read More » The revenue based earnings model was activated on July 1 with members earning 10 award points per HK$10 (US$1.27) spent. Hong Kong Airlines vice president, Wilson Yam, said the revenue-based model, which has been adopted by carriers in Europe, the U.S. and elsewhere in recent years, offers Fortune Wings Club members a "refreshingly straightforward experience". It also is expected to attract new members to the program. "Hong Kong Airlines is the first local carrier to adopt this innovative method for points accrual based on member’s spending,” Yam said.
