ICAO says 2024 accident data reinforces need for sustained, collective action

Read More » It’s Edition Safety Report - State of Global Aviation Safety - said fatal accidents jumped to 10 last year from one in 2023. There were three fatal accidents in the Asia-Pacific in 2024 resulting in 185 deaths. Despite last year’s increase in accidents, ICAO said the figures were lower than pre-COVID-2019. It added 2024 recorded more than 37 million departures worldwide. "Aviation remains the safest form of transport and the long-term trend demonstrates continuous improvement," ICAO secretary general, Juan Carlos Salazar, said. ICAO Council president, Salvatore Sciacchitano, added: "The figures from 2024 are a tragic and timely reminder that sustained and collective action is necessary to keep advancing to ICAO’s goal of zero fatalities in commercial air transport."
