Cathay Pacific delivers robust air traffic expansion in latest month

"The robust demand Cathay Pacific saw in July was primarily driven by long-haul traffic to and from Hong Kong in the first half of the month, particularly students and those visiting friends and relatives, followed by leisure traffic to regional destinations such as South Korea and Southeast Asia in the second half of July," Cathay chief customer and commercial officer, Lavinia Lau, said. Cathay Group LCC, HK Express’s, passenger numbers improved 21.6%, to 685,784 air travellers in the reported period, available seat kilometres increased 37.9% and passenger load factor declined 5.7 percentage points to 75.7%. "Demand for flights to Japan remained subdued in July because of the earthquake rumours," Lau said of HK Express’s July performance. "We are gradually seeing a pickup in bookings in August, but they are yet to return to normal levels."
