Air Niugini unveils special anniversary livery on first A220

Air Niugini is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Papua New Guinea’s independence on September 16 with a special livery on the fuselage of its first A220-300. Read More » The aircraft, now in final flight testing before delivery to the airline, features the country’s 50th anniversary logo and includes the Southern Cross constellation, the Bird of Paradise and a flowing ribbon. "This aircraft is more than just a new addition to our fleet. It is our first brand new, next generation jet aircraft. It captures the spirit of our nation and our aspirations for the future," Air Niugini acting CEO, Captain Samiu Taufa MBE, said. "As we celebrate 50 years of independence, the ‘People’s Balus’ stands as a testament to our journey and our commitment to progress." Air Niugini has ordered eight A220-100s and three A220-300s with three of the ordered jets scheduled to join the Port Moresby airline by year-end. Seven pilots have completed A220 type rating training and 25 pilots will be qualified to operate the aircraft type by December, the carrier said.
