AirAsia Philippines stepping up efforts to prevent bird strikes
September 19th 2025
AirAsia Philippines is working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the Air Carriers Association of the Philippines (ACAP), and other aviation stakeholders to address an increase in bird strike incidents, the Aviation Updates Philippines (AUP) reports. Read More » From January to August this year, AirAsia Philippines recorded more than 90 bird strike incidents at the domestic airports it serves. Most encounters were minor, but six incidents resulted in aircraft component damage. The incidents did not affect passenger safety, the airline said. "Wildlife activity is a natural occurrence around airports, but even a single bird can pose a risk during take-off and landing. Wildlife hazard management is not something airlines can address alone, the carrier said. "It requires collective action with government agencies, airport operators and the entire aviation industry. We are proud to work closely with CAAP, ACAP, airport partners, and fellow airlines to ensure our skies remain safe for everyone," AirAsia Philippines president and CEO, Capt. Suresh Bangah, said. In partnership with CAAP, the airline is supporting efforts to mitigate birds around Tacloban Airport. CAAP has committed to a team of biologists and wildlife experts to implement wildlife hazard management measures within the runway area and its surroundings. The LCC, CAAP and the ACAP Safety Sub-Committee will share data and align nationwide strategies for wildlife hazard mitigation and the airline will introduce intensified crew advisories at high-risk airports.
