India signs MoU with Russia to produce commercial aircraft for domestic market

Indian state-owned military planes producer Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) from Russia to build UAC’s SJ-100 twin-engine, narrow-body aircraft for the domestic market. Read More » UAC has been under U.S., European Union, and British sanctions since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. "This collaboration between HAL and UAC is the result of mutual trust between the organizations. It’s a step towards fulfilling the dream of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India) in the civil aviation sector," HAL said in a statement, adding that the Indian aviation sector is estimated to require more than 200 jets for regional connectivity over the next 10 years and an additional 350 to serve nearby international tourist destinations.
