Qatar Airways disinvests from Cathay Pacific

Qatar Airways has decided to sell its entire stake in Cathay Pacific Airways, representing approximately 9.57% of the total issued shares, for HK$6.97 billion (US$897 million). Read More » The Qatari airline reached a buy-back agreement with Cathay, upon which the Hong Kong carrier will repurchase the shareholding through a buyback at HK$10.8374 per share, roughly a 4% discount to its last closing share price. “This agreement reflects Qatar Airways Group’s disciplined approach to portfolio management and our commitment to delivering sustainable value for our shareholders. Following a period of record profitability and strong performance, this decision is part of a proactive strategy to optimise our investments and position the group for long-term growth,” Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer said. “The buy-back reflects our strong confidence in the future of the Cathay Group and underscores our commitment to the development of the Hong Kong international aviation hub,” Cathay Group Chair Patrick Healy commented.
