Singapore sustainable aviation fuel levy to start April 1 next year
November 11th 2025
The Singapore government will begin charging passengers a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) levy from April 1 next year for flights departing the city from October 1. Read More » The green levy will depend on the distance of flight and cabin class, starting from S$1.00 (US$0.77) for an economy or premium economy passenger flying to a destination within Southeast Asia and rising to S$41.60 for a business or first class traveller to the Americas. The charges, which have been set based on the volume of SAF needed to meet Singapore’s 1% SAF target for 2026, are lower than first estimated to reflect the "lower prevailing cost of SAF compared to when the initial estimates were made", the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said. Cargo, general aviation and business aviation flights will also be subject to the levy. "The introduction of the SAF levy marks a major step forward in Singapore’s effort to build a more sustainable and competitive air hub," CAAS director-general, Han Kok Juan, said. "It provides a mechanism for all aviation users to do their part to contribute to sustainability at a cost which is manageable for the air hub."
