Australia reports 9.4% increase in international air travellers for August

Qantas Airways topped the table with 15.7% of international passengers transported, down half a percentage point from 16.2% a year ago, Australia’s Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) said. In second place was Qantas Group LCC, Jetstar Airways. In contrast with Qantas, Jetstar increased its market share to 13.6% of all international passengers carried, against 12.9% a year ago. Singapore Airlines (SIA) was Australia’s largest foreign carrier by passengers flown in the month, at 9%, followed by Air New Zealand (6.4%) and Emirates Airline (6.3%). SIA topped the monthly table for international freight with 16.9% of the market ahead of Qantas (10.5%) and Cathay Pacific (7.2%).
