Japan Airlines retires Boeing 777-300ER prototype aircraft

Japan Airlines (JAL) has retired the fourth Boeing 777-300ER aircraft from its long-haul fleet, leaving nine planes in service. Read More » The retired plane, with registration JA732J and distinctive Oneworld Alliance livery, was the second prototype originally used as a test aircraft (N5017V) for flight tests during the 777-300ER program development by Boeing. After that, it was delivered to JAL in July 2003. The last commercial flight of the plane was JL52 from Sydney to Tokyo Haneda on November 20, 2025. In its latest cabin configuration the JA732J was equipped in 244 seats in four classes (8 first class, 49 business class, 40 premium economy, and 147 economy) in the “W84” configuration, and it was refurbished as the fifth aircraft to be fitted with the “SKY SUITE 777” specifications, which began service in January 2013, the Aviation Wire reports.
