Korean Air cuts plastic use with new meal containers

Korean Air (KAL) is replacing its plastic inflight meal containers with those made from more sustainable materials. Read More » The new meal containers, which are primarily used for main meals in economy class, will initially be rolled out on select routes next month. KAL said it planned to expand the use of the new containers across its entire network by the end of 2026. The SkyTeam alliance member said the containers, made from a plant-based pulp that did not require cutting down trees, were expected to reduce related carbon emissions by about 60%. "This transition to new inflight meal containers is an essential long-term investment in environmental protection and sustainable operations," KAL said. "We remain committed to advancing our sustainability initiatives, aligning with global decarbonisation trends in aviation, and delivering greater value to our customers."
