AirBorneo to take flight from January next year

AirBorneo is on track to begin flying in January 2026 on rural air services in the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, following its formal takeover of the routes from MASWings, local media reported, citing comments from Sarawak transport minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin. Read More » In February, the Sarawak government signed an agreement to acquire MASWings from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG). The government has rebranded MASWings to AirBorneo and plans to grow the airline from the current turboprop operations to include jet flights on other domestic and international routes. Lee said AirBorneo was working to start jet flights before the end of 2026. However, this was dependent on aircraft availability, getting slots at destination airports and obtaining a variation to its air operator’s certificate to include jet aircraft and international routes. All MASWings staff have been offered roles at AirBorneo, the minister said.
