Malaysia Airports has kept in place a new traffic management system at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), following a three-month trial. Read More » The vehicle access management system introduced a 10-minute limit for the kerbside pickup and drop-off of passengers, with those staying beyond longer forced to pay a fee starting at 10 ringgit (US$2.42) for being in the kerbside area between 10 and 15 minutes. The fee rises to 100 ringgit for staying 25 to 30 minutes. Malaysia Airports said the trial had led to a change in driver behaviour, noting the number of vehicles which exceeded the 10-minute kerbside limit fell from 50% to 21% over the three months. "With full enforcement starting 1 December at T1, we are ensuring that terminal access remains orderly and that everyone has a fair chance to use the drop-off and pick-up lanes efficiently," Malaysia Airports managing director, Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani, said. "This consistency is especially important as we enter the year-end travel peak and gear up for Visit Malaysia Year 2026." KLIA also has other car parks where drivers are able to wait for free for longer than 10 minutes.
