India’s IndiGo has officially inaugurated its Airbus A321XLR commercial operations, launching the Mumbai-Athens route on January 23, 2026, and the Delhi-Athens route on January 24, 2026. Read More » The newly received extended range variant of an A321 jet, with a range of up to 8,700 km and a maximum flight time of 11 hours, is central to the LCC’s plans to expand into new markets across Europe and East Asia. IndiGo’s A321XLR fleet is equipped in two classes - the new economy class with 183 RECARO R2 seats, and "IndiGoStretch" with 12 RECARO R5 seats. The LCC has a firm order for 40 Airbus A321XLR aircraft in its backlog and expects to accept 9 aircraft of this type in 2026.
