Melbourne Airport’s passenger numbers decline January

Read More » While international travellers carried were higher by 1.8% to 1.3 million last month, but the gains were offset by a 1.8% drop in domestic travellers, to 2.1 million, in the 31 days. But Melbourne Airport noted January 2026 was the third busiest month in the airport’s history behind December 2025 and January 2025. Melbourne Airport CEO, Lorie Argus, said the growth in international travellers was supported by major events in the city in the month including the Australian Open tennis tournament. "We are proud to be Australia’s largest 24-hour airport. We are investing in significant new infrastructure, including a third runway, to cater for growing demand for international travel and the benefits that brings to Victoria," Argus said.
