AirAsia X posts decline in annual net profit

AirAsia X (AAX) has reported net profit of 191.7 million ringgit (US$49 million) for the 12 months to December 31, 2025, down 16.3% from 229.1 million ringgit in calendar 2024. The company provided some details of its medium-haul and short-haul operations for the fourth quarter of calendar 2025, following the recent transfer of the AirAsia group of airlines into AAX from Capital A. It said the AAX medium-haul business more than tripled quarterly net profit from 22.6 million ringgit to 78.6 million ringgit, driven by a 15% increase in fares as the company optimised its wide-body operations. It also benefitted from foreign exchange gains. The AirAsia short-haul network posted a net operating profit of 500 million ringgit and margins of 10% in the reported three months. The previous year’s figures were not disclosed. "2025 was the ultimate litmus test," AAX group CEO, Bo Lingam, said. "We said we would prove the scalability of our model and the results speak for themselves." The airline group is targeting revenue of 25 billion ringgit this year, up from a 22.2 billion ringgit in 2025. Passenger numbers were tipped to grow 15.2%, to 79 million, from 68.6 million last year. "We are currently in discussions with OEMs to expand our order book by up to 150 additional aircraft on top of the existing 374 aircraft order-book, to ensure we have the capacity to lead for the next decade," Lingham said.
