April 8th 2026
Malaysia Airlines will resume nonstop flights to Fukuoka in Japan after a 20-year absence in September. Read More » The oneworld alliance member, which last served Fukuoka in 2006, has scheduled five flights a week to the city located on the island of Kyushu in Western Japan with 737 MAX 8 aircraft starting September 2. It will be Malaysia Airlines’ third destination in Japan alongside existing service to Osaka and Tokyo. The Malaysia flag carrier is also launching new daily nonstop flights to Changsha and Shenzhen in Mainland China in July. In addition to the three route launches, the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) carrier is also increasing frequencies on existing routes, including Manila getting a fourth daily flight from the start of July, Columbo moving from daily to 10 flights next month and Brisbane increasing from five times weekly to daily by October. "This expansion reflects our strategic focus on scaling our presence in key growth markets across East Asia while cementing Kuala Lumpur’s position as a key strategic gateway," MAG CEO, Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, said. "Both Shenzhen and Changsha align perfectly with our network strategy, driven by robust demand across both business and leisure segments. The return to Fukuoka further enhances our network depth." There are currently no airlines offering nonstop flights between Kuala Lumpur and Fukuoka. Four airlines are on the Kuala Lumpur-Changsha route - AirAsia X, Batik Air Malaysia, China Southern Airlines (CSA) and Xiamen Airlines. AirAsia, CSA and Shenzhen Airlines fly from the Malaysia capital to Shenzhen.
