Korean Air (KAL) has reported net profit of 242.7 billion won (US$160 million) for the three months to March 31 2026, up 26% from 193.2 billion won in the same three months in 2025. Read More » Revenue rose 14% to 4.5 trillion won, KAL said in a regulatory filing. The company said there was "robust" passenger demand during the Lunar New Year period on its European and transit routes, while its cargo business was bolstered by an increase in fixed-volume contracts and flexible charter operations on high-demand routes in the Americas. Looking ahead, KAL said it had introduced internal cost reduction measures this month, which were designed to strengthen its financial structure and "build a more resilient foundation" for long-term growth. The airline group has also made changes to its network in response to ongoing geopolitical volatility and the subsequent impact on fuel prices and exchange rates. "Korean Air plans to protect margins by shifting its focus toward overseas and transit demand, offsetting a slowdown in domestic outbound travel," KAL said. "The cargo division will target seasonal volumes and high-growth sectors, including AI-related industries and K-beauty." Operating profit rose 47% to 516.9 billion won, KAL said.
