ACI report finds Tokyo Haneda and Hong Kong the busiest airports in Asia

Tokyo Haneda increased the number of travellers through its terminals by 6.7% to 91.7 million last year to be the busiest airport in the Asia-Pacific for passengers. Read More » Overall, the airport rose one spot to third in 2025 behind Dubai International (95.2 million) and Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (106.3 million), Airports Council International - World (ACI World) said in its annual rankings published this week. Among other airports in the region, Shanghai Pudong rose to fifth in 2025, from 10th last year thanks to a 10.7% growth in passengers to 85 million, while Guangzhou rose three places, from 12th to ninth, on the back of a 9.5% rise in passengers to 83.6 million. Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) retained its ranking as the world’s busiest cargo airport with 5.1 million tonnes of freight last year, almost 1 million tonnes more than Pudong in second place. "Thanks to the collective efforts of the air cargo community and strong support from various government departments, we continue to expand our capacity and enhance capability in handling high-value cargoes, e-commerce fulfillment, and cross-boundary transshipment, all being strategic and high growth segments," Airport Authority Hong Kong CEO, Vivian Cheung, said.
Other Asia-Pacific airports in the top 10 for cargo were Seoul Incheon (seventh), Taipei Taoyuan (ninth) and Guangzhou (10th). ACI World director-general, Justin Erbacci, said: "To help keep pace with rising demand, governments must prioritize sustained investment in airports and the broader aviation ecosystem."
