Kuwaiti airlines resume flights as airspace reopens

The Civil Aviation Authority of Kuwait has reopened the country’s airspace, paving the way for local carriers Jazeera Airways and Kuwait Airways to resume flight operations out of Kuwait International Airport. Read More » The director general of civil aviation, Sheikh Humoud Mubarak Humoud Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, said the reopening of airspace was part of measures to gradually resume full operations at Kuwait International Airport. Sheikh Humoud said repairs had begun on parts of the airport damaged when struck by attacks from Iran. Kuwait Airways had commenced a limited resumption of flying from Kuwait yesterday (April 26) from Terminal 4. The airline said it was continuing to monitor the situation "while maintaining adherence to the exceptional safety measures in place". Jazeera Airways, which also resumed flying from Kuwait International Airport yesterday, said it was currently offering nonstop service to eight destinations. "Following the official confirmation from the authorities on the reopening of Kuwait airspace, we are pleased to announce the phased resumption of flights from Kuwait International Airport Terminal 5," Jazeera Airways said. Kuwait airspace was closed nearly two months ago, on February 28, when the Israel and U.S.-led war against Iran began.
