Thai AirAsia to cut seat capacity by 30% amid rising fuel costs

The schedule changes in the domestic market included frequency reductions on eight routes and the suspension of one route from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, with flight operations from Bangkok Don Mueang unaffected. The airline has reduced flying on nine international routes Don Mueang and suspended four routes - Don Mueang-Xi’an, Phuket-Chennai, Phuket-Kochi and Hong Kong-Okinawa. "Aviation fuel constitutes our primary operating expense, and with jet fuel prices having surged more than threefold recently, we must rigorously optimize our operational plans by reducing flight frequencies and temporarily suspending several unviable routes," Thai AirAsia CEO, Phairat Pornpathananangoon, said.
