China Eastern posts return to profitability at start of 2026

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) has reported net profit of 1.6 billion yuan (US$239 million) for the three months to March 31 2026, compared with a net loss of 995 million yuan in the same three months in 2025. Read More » Revenue rose 10.9% to 37.1 billion yuan, CEA said in a regulatory filing, while operating costs increased by a smaller 3% to 37.5 billion yuan. "Since the beginning of this year, the company has followed its annual work plan and gone all out to secure a strong start, seize opportunities, and drive profitability," CEA said. "The overall safety situation has remained stable, with solid results achieved in production and operations, presenting a positive and improving development trend."
